I just read an interesting article in Slate from Seth Stevenson about how beer ads are getting lame. I have a question for you Seth, were they ever groundbreaking master pieces? They have talking dogs for goodness sakes.
I think that Seth is over thinking beer ads. When I think of beer drinkers, I think of binge drinking frat guys, young hipsters at the bar, and the high school kids at the grocery store begging you to buy them beer. Yes, I know I am wrong, but am I really wrong?
I think Bud Light has the golden ticket. They know who drinks their beer, hence they create ads like this:
Fans of Bud Light like light hearted (no pun intended) humor. They want their commercials to "bring the funny." They aren't looking for a thoughtful piece about their beer.
So, get over it Seth. Take beer commercials for what they are worth. Slate
